For many companies and institutions, waiting for grid reinforcement is not an option: queues are long and lead times are increasing. SMEs, in particular, are directly hampered by this during electrification, expansion, and sustainability efforts.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"font-175577\"><strong>The core challenge:<\/strong> doing more with the same grid capacity, without major, complex, or lengthy adjustments.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong><span class=\"font-175577\">The solution<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span class=\"font-175577\">Within the OPZuid Energy Link project, the project partners are developing and demonstrating a plug-and-play hardware-software module that enables non-residential buildings to control their (HVAC) energy systems smartly and flexibly.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"font-175577\">Energy Link combines:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>individual control (per building) to reduce peaks and operate installations more efficiently;<\/li>\n<li>collective control via an overarching software layer, allowing multiple buildings to coordinate their energy usage within a Decentralised Energy Hub.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong><span class=\"font-175577\">The Approach<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span class=\"font-175577\">The project focuses on further development, demonstration, and validation in 10 non-residential buildings (approximately 500\u20135,000 m\u00b2 gross floor area; including offices, schools, and production halls).<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"font-175577\">Technical Core:<\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><span class=\"font-175577\">Predictive Control Model (MPC) for predictive control of HVAC;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"font-175577\">Application of Physics-Informed Neural Networks (PINN) for reliable building models as the basis for MPC;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Montserrat;\">Use of historical and real-time building data, combined with usage patterns and weather influences, among other factors, to apply concrete setpoints and control signals directly to installations.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span class=\"font-175577\">Targeted KPIs (project ambition):<\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><span class=\"font-175577\">unlocking 40% flexibility in energy consumption via MPC\/AI and data;<\/span><\/li>\n<li>20% more efficient use of HVAC systems through intelligent control.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span class=\"font-175577\">Important design choice: the solution is aimed at direct applicability in existing buildings, with limited organisational complexity to enable control across buildings. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"font-175577\">Expected impact<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span class=\"font-175577\">Energy Link makes it possible to:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span class=\"font-175577\">reduce and prevent consumption peaks;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"font-175577\">make better use of existing grid capacity;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"font-175577\">lower congestion impact without primarily relying on additional battery deployment or major renovations; and<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"font-175577\">accelerate scaling up to a large group of non-residential buildings.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span class=\"font-175577\">Financing<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span class=\"font-175577\">Energy Link is made possible in part by OPZuid (ERDF) and is co-financed by the European Union.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"font-175577\">Consortium<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span class=\"font-175577\">Energy Link is implemented by:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span class=\"font-175577\">Integer Technologies B.V.
