CARES: A Step Closer to Circular Renovation of Social Housing

CARES: A Step Closer to Circular Renovation of Social Housing

We are proud to announce that the preliminary application for CARES (Circular Approach for Renovating Social Housing) has been submitted! This Interreg Vlaanderen-Netherland project focuses on accelerating circular renovations in the social housing sector. Through a structured approach, hands-on guidance, and concrete tools, we support housing corporations and social housing organizations in their transition to circular practices.
CARES is a cross-border initiative that helps social housing providers integrate circular renovation into their daily operations. This is achieved through:
- A dedicated support program with hands-on guidance, practical workshops, and training-on-the-job sessions.
- A maturity scan to identify circular opportunities and development steps.
- A structured menu of circular renovation options, serving as both inspiration and a practical guide.
- Guidelines for circular procurement, making the process more transparent and accessible.
- A learning network, where housing providers, suppliers, and policymakers collaborate and exchange knowledge.
By combining these elements, CARES ensures that circular innovations are not only tested and validated but also effectively applied in practice. This brings us one step closer to making social housing truly sustainable.
This project is made possible through the collaboration of Alba Concepts BV, APB Kamp C, Cirkelstad, Leefgoed, Passiefhuis-Platform VZW (PIXII), OVAM (Openbare Vlaamse Afvalstoffen Maatschappij), Stichting Circulair Bouwen Zeeland en NXT-Building. The Future BV, with Lars de Hamer as an expert in construction innovation, plays a key role in bringing partners together and facilitating this initiative.
Now that the preliminary application has been submitted, we eagerly await the official approval. Once approved, we will move forward with the full project plan and begin working directly with housing providers to implement circular renovation strategies on the ground.
