Prevention-Oriented Care: The Key to a Future-Proof Healthcare System

Prevention-Oriented Care: The Key to a Future-Proof Healthcare System

The healthcare sector is facing major challenges. The rise in chronic diseases such as type 2 diabetes, increasing healthcare costs, and a growing staff shortage make it clear that structural change is necessary. Instead of focusing solely on treatment, we must emphasize prevention as an integral part of healthcare.

Therefore, we have submitted a pre-application for the Prevention-Oriented Care System, an Interreg Flanders-Netherlands project that aims to lay the foundation for more sustainable healthcare, with an integrated focus on health promotion in the community. We start with prevention related to diabetes and will expand further.

Why is this project so important?

  • Shaping initiatives around prevention before and by residents of the community.
  • Smart, data-driven preventive measures tailored to the characteristics and conditions of a neighborhood.
  • Effective local collaboration between healthcare providers, social organizations, policymakers, and residents.

A Joint Effort for a Healthier Future

This project is made possible through strong collaboration with In4Care, Televitas, Innerbuddies, Maastricht University, Fontys University of Applied Sciences, Vito, Faqir, HoWest, Maria Middelaeres, Jeroen Bosch Hospital, and AVANS University of Applied Sciences.

Our colleague Thomas Luimes, on behalf of The Future BV, has brought together the consortium and guided it through the application process.

In June, we will hear whether the project is approved. If the decision is positive, we will immediately start working on the full project plan. This would be an important step toward a future-proof healthcare system where prevention becomes the norm, and people stay healthier for longer.
